Export Development and Agricultural Invest Fund (EDAIF) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Accra.

The purpose was to provide financial support and technical expertise to farmers and farming groups in the Savanna zone to embark on a Mango Project for processing, export and also enhance agro-processing.

Dr Issahaku Abdul-Nashiru, Acting Chief Executive Officer of EDAIF said his outfit intended to established a mango project and provide financial support to farmers in the Savanna zone, which comprises Northern, Upper East and West regions, Brong Ahafo and Volta regions.

He said EDAIF was partnering with ADRA to provide technical training and expertise to farmers who will embark on the mango project and also assess and recommend to EDAIF the performance of the project. 

Dr Abdul-Nashiru said for the start over 70 farmers and farming groups will benefit from the project which aimed at expanding the number based on the performance and on the recommendation of ADRA.

He said the programme would also help to generate revenue from export, add value and contribute to Ghana’s economic development.

Mr Samuel Asante-Mensah, Director of Agriculture and Food Security Project of ADRA said it was a privilege to partner with EDAIF to train farmers and provide them with technical expertise to embark on the mango project.

He said ADRA for the past 15years had been providing training and technical support to farmers in the Eastern, Western and Brong Ahafo Regions and would now be expanding to the northern savanna zone to generate revenue for the country.

He thanked EDAIF for the opportunity given to ADRA and assured them of his outfit's commitment to provide the best technical assistance to the farmers.

Professor Francis Doodo, Board Chairman of EDAIF said it was best for the fund to remain within its limits, adding, “The original mandate of EDAIF was to provide financial assistance for agric exports which were intend to generate revenue for the nation.

He explained that EDAIF is an institution mandated to provide financial support for the promotion of export trade and the agro-processing industry in Ghana.


"It helps to generate revenue, promote manufacturing in Ghana and assists farmers in strengthening their production base in the agro-processing industry."
