Introduction The Nurture Project, an educational dream scheme for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, is being implemented in 7 districts of Ashanti, Eastern and Central Regions of Ghana. The project targets the general population, PLHIVs 1 and OVCs in 35 selected communities of the seven implementation districts, namely: Asante Akyem North, Asante Akyem South, Bosome Freho, Kwahu West, Agona West, Birim Central and Mfantseman. The Nurture Project is funded from the ADRA International’s Gift Catalogue. This is meant to assist OVC families with health education, livelihood support and education for orphans and vulnerable children.
Payment of Educational Bills:
Educational bills paid for the second term of the 2014/2015 academic year for 11 final year students in Senior High Schools. Bills for 10 tertiary students were also paid by the project during the year under review. The project will continue to settle the fees for the current 10 tertiary students until they complete their programmes of study in 2017.
This project report covers activities carried out in 2014 implementation year. The year saw a successful implementation of activities for the project titled “Reinforcing the Scaling up of HIV Services: Strengthening HIV Prevention and Effective Targeting”. The purpose of the project was to promote the correct and consistent use of condom; promote access to HIV/STI testing and counselling services; and address HIV/STI related
stigma and discrimination among Female Sex Workers (FSWs) and against FSWs by health workers. There was a successful Peer Education (PE) activity through one-on-one and small group sessions with the
focus being the hot spots in the sex workers communities within all the project sites. Implementation of their activities was made possible through a strong collaboration with our key stakeholders such as the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Activities undertaken during the year included: Behavior Change Communication (BCC) outreaches on HIV/ STI for key populations (oneon-one and small groups sessions), BCC Education sessions with Health Workers, outreach HIV Testing & Counselling of FSWs in the target communities. It is in response to the above steps in the fight against HIV infections that ADRA in partnership with Sub Recipients (SRs) such as Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and Prolink Organization with support from Global Fund implemented the project in 11 districts in the Ashanti, Eastern, Greater Accra and Volta Regions of Ghana. ADRA as the Principal Recipient (PR) actively supported and provided regular technical support to all the Sub Recipients in the delivery of project results. As a result of the hard work by all partners, the PR received an A1 rating in the reporting period.
